Modern Day Woman

Self Image

Let’s talk about self image. I heard something the other day that broke my heart and I feel I needed to write about it.

Okay so everyone knows I’m a huge fan of The Biggest Loser, so I wanted to share something one of the contestants said that broke my heart. Jillian Michaels asked why she was there, meaning on the show, and this woman’s answer just crushed me. She said she wanted to lose weight so her boyfriend will finally marry her. She went on to say that he “worries” about her weight and doesn’t want her to feel embarrassed at the wedding. And they can’t have kids until she loses weight anyways. And it goes on, but that is where I’m going to stop.

Ladies if a man ever tells you he will not marry you or have babies with you until you lose weight, LEAVE HIM! There is a big difference in what this man said and being willing to help her become healthier.

Take my husband for instance, he met me when I was bigger and loved me no matter what. And when I expressed I wanted to lose weight he said “okay, I support you”. And support is exactly what he did! He went to work crazy early so he can get home earlier so we can go to the gym together. He showed me moves, but knowing I was a competitive weight lifter back in the day he knew he was ‘preaching to the choir’. He ate what I ate even though it meant not having rice or pasta every day. He supported me! When the pounds started falling off and my clothes didn’t fit, he took me shopping. At no point did he make me feel anything less of a beautiful, smart woman who cared about my health. He believed in me and he loved me at any size.

We as women have enough things surrounding us telling us about our imperfections. The last thing we need is to come home and be fed more of this persona of what a beautiful woman is supposed to be. We need to have someone at home that tells us we are beautiful every day. We need someone at home that compliments us and celebrates with us when we hit our goals, not someone who says, o that’s great, but you have a lot of weight to still lose.

This story broke my heart because Jillian’s next question had me dumbfounded. She asked how long they’ve been together and if she was skinny when they met. And this woman said no, she has been big her entire life. They’ve been together for eleven years and shes been big the entire time. All I thought about was how much pain this woman had in her heart after eleven years of hearing these kind of negative thoughts. It’s just heartbreaking!

If you do not get told this at home, please know you are beautiful! You are unique and strong and you will achieve whatever you put your mind to!

We DO NOT need to be a size 2 in order to be beautiful or healthy! We can have babies that come out healthy at any size! I’m a perfect example, I hit my highest weight ever at 300lbs when I gave birth to my beautiful and 100% healthy baby boy!

And most importantly, We DO NOT need anyone else to tell us about our imperfections, we tell ourselves about them every day! We need to hear we are beautiful! AND YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Its such as you learn my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the guide in it or something.
I think that you just could do with some % to power
the message home a bit, but instead of that, that is great
blog. An excellent read. I will definitely be back.
