Shopping at Size 18

Did you know fat girls don’t like to dress pretty? Me either. I thought we all liked to look and feel pretty. But in today’s society I found out this weekend that my thoughts are all wrong.

It all started when friends invited me to their weddings. One in the woods and one on the beach. Both casual weddings, not too fancy of a venue or a dress code to speak of, but instead they are the type the brides tell you, “dress to your comfort.” Well for me that means wearing a pretty dress, doing my hair and makeup and making an effort to be “pretty” for the day. So what’s the first thing a girls gotta do to get ready for this type of wedding? Go shopping!!!!

Started at Target and Kohls and found nothing. Then we went over to the mall.

Went to three different stores before JCPenney and found nothing. Thought for sure I’d find something there since normally they have some good selections. But again nothing. They’ve changed their merchandise. The women’s section used to go up to 18 regular and then start at 14w and go up to 24w for the plus size but now the regulars go up to 16 and that’s if you can find any because let’s face it, that’s a pretty popular size and the plus go up to size 22w.

So when we found no cute dresses in the regular we go over to the plus size and can I just say, WTF! All hideous, all old lady fashion, nothing remotely pretty for anyone. And the 18s looked like moo moos, and if anyone doesn’t know what a moo moo is, its like taking a sheet, folding it over and sewing down the sides and putting slits in for the arms. It’s big and blah. Shows no figure and covers up everything. Sending the message to everyone that sees you that you are fat and insecure about your figure so you wear something that covers everything and makes your silhouette look like you are 5’ wide and 5’ tall. Very flattering right!?

Not!!!!

It’s hideous! And let’s not mention what it does to your self esteem. Which mind you is already damaged by just having to be in the plus size section in the first place. It really sucks. You hope and pray no one you know sees you shopping in the plus size!!!! It’s the absolute worst! And then to see all the heinous things these big shot fashion people create for you, the fat kids, to wear!!!! What the hell is wrong with these people! If a skinny person won’t wear it, what makes you think us “fat” people will wear it!?

Now as for Macy’s, I give your props!!!! Whoever Macy’s hired to be their designers, way to go Macy’s!!!! With the many bazillion options you have that are all beautiful and fabulous for us of the larger stature, we all thank you! I found so many options for my size and others. Up to size 26 to be exact and all beautiful. From evening gowns to casual dresses, all different styles, short, long, with rhinestones and even slits that come up the thigh! Why, because bigger people like to feel pretty too!!!!!

Thank you Macy’s for building my self esteem and helping another bigger girl feel worthy enough to have a beautiful dress. And ladies it’s not just their dress selections, they had everything in our sizes that was beautiful!!! And you want sexy, they also have sexy!!! From bras and panties, to tops and designer jeans! They had everything that was available to the small and skinny showing the rib cages type of girls that society says we should be, for us average but gorgeous women who happen to be bigger in number!

And even better, they are sized bigger than the number so I walked out being 2 sizes smaller than what I had expected to buy in the first place! My dress size is a 16 in Macy’s when I thought I was an 18 or 20! So overall I love shopping again! But only at Macy’s!
