Racism Still Exists
Something has been heavy on my heart since I saw another post last night. I feel I need to lay some light on the subject and maybe open some people’s eyes to the truth some people face every day. I’ve seen a lot of posts that say racism doesn’t exist, and things like racism didn’t exist until Obama took office. And if you think racism doesn’t exist or has only existed since Obama, let me tell you a story of a little girl who’s life has been affected by racism her entire life. At the age of 5 or 6 she was asked why she wanted the “brown” doll vs…

Know Your Truth and Believe It
Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought to yourself as being ugly or having a “fat day”? We all have these days, especially women. This blog is to hopefully boost your self esteem and your personal thought about the image you see staring back at you. I grew up hearing more negative things about myself than positive, so it’s no surprise when you find out I grew up with low self esteem. Being told I was short, fat, ugly, stupid and that I wouldn’t amount to anything was a normal day in my household. And to think people thought I was this person’s favorite, most prized child. You…

Know Your Worth
Ever thought you weren’t good enough? Ever looked in the mirror wondering how you got to this spot in your life? Ever questioned what your purpose on this planet was for. Thinking you’ll never be good enough or smart enough or pretty enough. Well guess what every person on this planet has had some kind of doubt or negative thought at least once in their life. You may see this beautiful, strong person, but what they see in the mirror might be something completely different. Because we are not perfect, even…

Shopping at Size 18
Did you know fat girls don’t like to dress pretty? Me either. I thought we all liked to look and feel pretty. But in today’s society I found out this weekend that my thoughts are all wrong. It all started when friends invited me to their weddings. One in the woods and one on the beach. Both casual weddings, not too fancy of a venue or a dress code to speak of, but instead they are the type the brides tell you, “dress to your comfort.” Well for me that means wearing a pretty dress, doing my hair and makeup and making an effort to be “pretty” for the day.…

Self Image
Let’s talk about self image. I heard something the other day that broke my heart and I feel I needed to write about it. Okay so everyone knows I’m a huge fan of The Biggest Loser, so I wanted to share something one of the contestants said that broke my heart. Jillian Michaels asked why she was there, meaning on the show, and this woman’s answer just crushed me. She said she wanted to lose weight so her boyfriend will finally marry her. She went on to say that he “worries” about her weight and doesn’t want her to feel embarrassed at the wedding. And they can’t have kids until…

We Need to Do Better
I read something today that just broke my heart. A woman referred to her two clients as “very plus size.” She wanted tips on how to photograph them like it’s any different than photographing a skinny woman! And the worst part is the shoot she’s doing is for two maternity shoots. This breaks my heart on so many levels. But mostly because as a plus size woman myself who just had a baby and maternity pictures done, I know first hand the insecurities that go along with your changing body. My biggest insecurity was that no one would even know I was pregnant, but instead think I just put on…
